I was first introduced to WaterFire by a friend I used to work with. I have been a number of times and would love to go to all of them; unfortunately, I live about 2.5 hours away.

The most memorable WaterFire event I can remember was in October a few years back, put on by the Gloria Gemma Foundation. It was very chilly out, the wind was blowing and the basin was as always, chuck full of on lookers. As the torch procession started, I could see that the people carrying the torches were survivors and or friends/family of survivors. A lot of these people were teary eyed; it was very touching to be a part of this event. The windy air was carrying the scent of the fires and there was a respectful silence in the crowd . . .
