The first WaterFire I can remember attending, I was about 8 years old. My mom had called to ask if it started and I was unsure. She said, “Well if there’s fire on the river, then it started.” I never truly understood the behind the scenes at WaterFire. The amount of effort and the number of volunteers it takes to put a WaterFire Lighting together is still incredible to me.
I am so happy to be a part of the WaterFire team now and I am glad you all have the same love and appreciation for this organization as well. A year ago today I was speeding to The WaterFire Arts Center for my first day. I walked into the office at approximately 9:02 AM…whoops. I remember everyone standing in the Volunteer Department area waiting for me. I met my new coworker Kim, beautiful, dressed to the nines, and even wearing heels. I thought to myself – does she know what she’s getting into? About three days into the job she stopped wearing heels and switched to sneakers.
We quickly began to get to know each other and we just clicked as coworkers and friends. I am happy to be able to work side by side Kim, along with the rest of the staff, and all of you. Knowing I get to work with volunteers like you throughout the year is what makes me enjoy my job. You all make it easy and I want to thank you for welcoming me into the Volunteer Family.
